THREAD: since Tuesday, I and several faculty & staff members at @UMichEducation have been circulating an open letter across campus urging @umich to let regular staff members take time off to observe #Juneteenth without having to use vacation or sick time.
You can view the letter, which provides background and outlines our requests here (you must be signed into a U-M account to view it): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hg37aLi64bkF9Upsdt3ngi7ByhpgFw_ZyWFS1tYx7oI/edit?usp=sharing
We've garnered more than 400 signatures from U-M staff, faculty, students, & alum in support of our efforts. We've sent the letter to the Office of the President, & while we wait for a response, we are still collecting signatures from U-M community members who support this effort
If you'd like to sign the open letter, you can do so by filling out this Google Form (again, you must be signed in to your U-M account to access it): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfr2DlCmWkN41fuRZ4qdA0_gTIotZ-Iw5bOe85-8CdExwMw5Q/viewform
#Junteenth2020 represents an important chance to reflect and find joy amid our recent collective heartache. Allowing staff members to commemorate this important holiday would offer tangible evidence of the
@UMich's commitments to DEI, and to its Black community members.
We are so inspired by the outpouring of support we’ve received from staff, faculty, students, and alum from across units. Thank you to everyone who has signed and/or shared our letter!
UPDATE: we've changed the share settings on the letter so anyone can view, but you must be signed into a U-M account to fill out the Google Form to sign.
