1/ Inspired by comments wanted to leave on a post I can’t find now. I wanted to do a thread on the other face of the 2 faces of prejudice. The one where ppl think they’re helping/doing good by treating ppl as a charity case.

2/ We all know the most obvious, where someone mistreats & denies someone solely for skin color/race/religion/etc. Not just one ppl, but all, b/c if we’re going to actually have honest dialogue, it happens all over to everyone from all sides.
3/ Then there’s the another side. I’ll put it in first person to bring it a little more to life. I’m a Latina. A proud Latina, but also a proud American. I will not apologize for being Latina OR American, nor will I victimize myself for either.
4/ When u give me something in the name of anti-racism b/c u’re putting some type of oppression label on me, u urself are adding TO racism by saying I need a hand-out b/c of my race, that I can’t accomplish based on my own sets of skills/talents...
5/ so u’d rather choose me when I’m NOT the most qualified to check off a box of diversification, to make urself feel better, like u’re actually adding to the solution/cure. That tells others that u think they’re too dumb & unskilled to attain on their own.
6/ That is more offensive than somebody calling me a spic, especially because it’s in the guise of help/equal opportunity/doing something “good.” It’s disingenuous. You’re not actually helping anybody.
7/ When u hand out to someone that isn’t qualified for something regardless of color/race/religion/etc, u’re doing them a disservice. U throw hard work out the window, b/c it’s no longer a qualifier for results OR success.
8/ The only place I know that success comes BEFORE work is in the dictionary, but that’s not how life should work, nor the lesson we need to send to others, OR our children. Don’t teach entitlement, on either side.
9/ Any oppression u think u’re “saving” any1 from is just being added to the issue u say u’re fighting against. It’s not better than denying someone cos of identity, it’s just different, b/c now you’re choosing someone cos of identity.
10/ All that aside from the skewed angled showcasing of only 1 race, which I won’t get into here. My focus here: the other side toted as the “answer/remedy” for any injustice. Now u slap us in the face treating us like babies/victims unable to achieve on our own.
11/ U really want equal? Stop victimizing & just fill roles b/c some1 actually is the best fit for it. If the best fits turn out to be mostly white in that particular place, fine. If it’s more Latino, fine. If it’s more black, fine. Etc. U don’t need a magic # quota.
