What happened in George Sq tonight was largely without precedent. There are refugee/asylum seeker solidarity demos in Glasgow all the time. They have never, until tonight, been opposed - let alone by hundreds of young men who were desperate for a fight.
The demo was called because of an emergency situation facing asylum seekers in the city, being detained in hotels with their finance cut off. Have the BBC mentioned this in their report? No, they've basically got the solidarity demo down as the instigators https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-53086488
By contrast, the Daily Record's article, while flawed, actually goes to the effort of explaining the whole fucking reason for the demo!! https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/asylum-seeker-protesters-evacuate-unsafe-22209251
If you want to show solidarity with asylum seekers in Glasgow + can afford to donate:

just to add to this - the BBC article has been updated with a link to the No Evictions statement. The line that protesters said "that they wanted to leave the square" is not rly true though - it was obvious that it would have to leave under escort, which it did after 20-30 mins
