Why are we asked to subscribe to the thought that as readers we should just accept that a paper publishes wildly inaccurate opinion columns, and that those columns shouldn't then impact my overall impression of the newspaper itself? The paychecks all come out of the same account.
If you give space to people are knowingly and willingly trying to mislead the public, for example giving a whole column to someone who doesn't live in Calgary but doesn't support the greenline, am I not supposed to let that influence my overall impression of the paper?
I struggle to think of another type of business that gets to say "this part of our business is weak, but this part over here is great." As a customer, I get to decide.
