The people decrying the loss of things like Aunt Jemima syrup, Confederate monuments, and superheroes and pop culture figures being recast are more worried about perceived loss of cultural power than people's lives.

While these critics like to say the Left's attempts to topple statues and create more diversity and representation as "insane" or unnecessary, what they see is that these symbols ACTUALLY create and maintain power and can block certain people from having power.
Confederate statues are there to remind African Americans the Confederacy and white supremacy survived the Civil War.
Toppling them means that cultural power has shifted and that white supremacy is actually in danger.

This works on every level, from major companies releasing statements supporting BLM and decrying white supremacy, it is a clear message to white supremacists that they have lost the battle for the future.

All of this plays out with dumb things like syrup or video games or comic books or movies, but this is where the real cultural battle can be fought without these people having to admit they're interested in white supremacy maintaining its stranglehold on culture.
Like the dog-whistles Republicans have relied on for generations, these cultural battles are a means of fighting for white supremacy without having to ADMIT you're fighting for white supremacy.
It's hiding behind symbols and metaphors, enjoying the safety of denial.

This is why everytime there's legitimate outrage, they tell you that you're weak, a snowflake, unreasonable and hysterical.
It's a matter of controlling culture while enjoying the shield of not having to own your own beliefs.
