A few thoughts on the Tory rhetoric that teachers and unions are stopping kids from being back at school ⬇️
1) My teacher wife has been working all throughout lockdown. In school teaching key worker children, doing planning and work for home schooled children and delivering food parcels to vulnerable families. They have been working!
2) The government don't make the point that all schools are different with different sized classrooms. This means that it's hard to get all the kids in when abiding by government regulations.
3) They can only accomodate 14 of 30 year 1 children at my wife's school due to available space. So they are currently reliant on 50% of parents not sending their kids back.
4) The government could have built new temporary classrooms on school grounds to make something work but they didn't. That's on them.
5) If you had a barn with thousands of caged hens in it but then decided to make it free range you couldn't fit the same amount of chickens in the same amount of space. Simple!
6) And finally, the education profession want to be teaching like normal again because they actually like your kids (mostly). To the government this comes to mind
