Tottenham’s midfield have been severely lacking since the departure of Moussa Dembele in 2019. Dembele was the epitome of press resistance, and intelligently read the game. We brought in Ndombele who has the same ‘x factor’ that Dembele had, but not the same defensive ability.
Ndombele is more efficient in the final third than Dembele was, averaging a total of 14.47 accurate final third passes last season. It would be natural to play him in a more advanced role than Dembele played, so Hojbjerg would compensate for this, by doing the defensive work.
Hojbjerg ranks top 20 for PL central midfielders in all of the following categories:
Tackles Won/90 - 2.42
Aerial Duel Win % - 58.8%
Final 3rd Passes/90 - 11.8
Ball Recoveries/90 - 8.03 (Most recoveries this SZN with 287)
Interceptions/90 - 1.78
Minutes/Goal Contribution - 471

Hojbjerg is an intelligent player, who reads the game quite well Similar to Sissoko, he disrupts opposition play with his physicality, but has superior numbers for tackling/interceptions/passing. Therefore, he preemptively recognizes danger with his high footballing IQ.
It is no secret that Spurs have had a plethora of defensive issues. Tottenham have the 6th highest xGA at 47.42, and have conceded the fifth highest shots against (395). Hojbjerg would would assist in reducing the total amount of shots with his ability to block and clear the ball
Tottenham with Hojbjerg would succeed most in a 433, as his defensive attributes and reading of the game would allow for both Ndombele and GLC to take a more offensive role. He would take the brunt of the defensive responsibility, which would allow them both to be more creative.
