I was watching and photographing a coyote when it surprised me by laying down in front of me.

This is the first time I remember a healthy coyote just laying down in front of me.

It seemed to just be waiting for something.
I noticed the coyote kept looking to its left, and I thought it was looking at prairie dogs who were barking away in alarm.
When I finally stopped and looked around the area, I realized there was a badger hunting in the prairie dog town less than 100 feet from the coyote and myself.
The badger eventually approached very close, while the coyote always stayed at a distance. Eventually, they moseyed off hunting together.

It was so so exciting to observe this ecological interaction that I had only ever heard about.
