(1/8) The new season of Russian Rugby Championship starts tomorrow.
"Russian Championship" is the official name now, the name Premier League was dropped in the offseason, apparently to avoid confusion with soccer.
Originally 2020/21 season was scheduled to start on 24 April.
(2/8) Start of the season was delayed several times since then. RUR wanted to start the season as early as possible to get more media attention. They succeeded, rugby is the 1st sport in Russia to resume play after the lockdown.
(3/8) Most teams resumed training late May-early June, so that's just about 3 weeks of training before the 1st game.
Only 10% of stadium capacity will be open to spectators, in some regions games will be played without spectators. Some teams had to relocate to other regions.
(4/8) 2020/21 RusCh'ship season will be played with 10 teams.
2 new teams promoted: CSKA Moscow and Strela Kazan (1st and 3rd places in the 2nd tier last season).
Kuban Krasnodar rebranded into Bogatyri.
RUR wants to add 2 more teams next season.
(5/8) 2020/21 is a transitional season. Pro rugby in Russia is switching from spring-autumn to autumn-spring season.
1st game on 18 June 2020, last game on 31 May 2021.
Regular season is a single round-robin, that's just 9 rounds.
This will be compensated with longer play-offs...
(6/8) 18 Jun - 28 Aug: regular season. 1st and 2nd go into semi-finals, 3rd to 6th into semi-finals.
2 - 11 Oct: quarter-finals (3rd v 6th, 4th v 5th, home and away).

24 Apr - 10 May: semi-finals (best-of-three).
14 - 31 May: Final (best-of-three).
(7/8) 2020/21 season is the first to be run directly by Rugby Union of Russia.
In previous seasons Premier League was run by an independent body controlled by clubs.
