In a joint blog with @SebastianLakner, we are analysing and questioning
1) whether food security is a real challenge in the EU,
2) whether it is a justifiable argument against environmental protection in the #CAPreform, and
3) whether corona demonstrated a food security problem. https://twitter.com/SebastianLakner/status/1273221960156119040
Short answer is No, No and No.
The longer spoiler is:
A) food security is not a major challenge in the EU, but if it was,
B) we can produce food instead of feed and fuel,
C) neither CAP nor Direct Payment are the solution.
Most importantly, we warn that the food security narrative diverts away from real challenges, and creates a risk of placing production/farmers against environment/society. As long as the CAP fails on both farmers and the environment, there is a much biger win-win to explore.
