A cop kills someone: I need the full context to make a decision on this.

Aunt Jemimah gets discontinued: THEY'RE ERASING US!

The context here is that black Americans weren't called Mr. or Mrs. because it denoted status in America. (Those titles are short for master, btw.) 1/5
One of the few jobs black men and women could get, especially in the south, was as a servant for wealthy families. They were called aunt and uncle. We aren't talking the 1800s... Think 1960s...
Middle-class whites like myself never think about the meaning or the context behind images like Uncle Ben or Aunt Jemimah. We don't have to. Black people do because there are still a lot of ghosts in our society from the past.
A band-aid labeled "flesh color" white just matches our skin tone. What about a black or brown five-year-old kid? A band-aid close to their skin tone or a face in a commercial that matches theirs is a subtle message that they belong to our society and they're not "others."
Removing these things is an act of empathy and respect. I am not sure how this is a controversy once the full context is understood.
