I never usually ask for RTs but I will now. During the pandemic, my interns worked their absolute socks off. They risked dangers, worked long, difficult and dangerous hours and most of them caught the disease. At the time, they were garlanded and I think there was a round of
applause one night and everything. The brightest and most efficient one of them had been due to go to Oz and now this needs to go on hold. In spite of applying the length and breadth of Ireland and some of UK, she has been unable to find an SHO job for next year. I've just had to
console her and send her off for coffee as she became upset and emotional when I asked her about plans for next year. Like so many people she is now looking at unemployment and being unable to pay the rent. When @LeoVaradkar and @SimonHarrisTD and all the great and the good were
rallying healthcare workers to the flag in March, telling them to answer Ireland's call and cancelling their breaks and holidays I never once heard them say "and in June, tough shit to you" but that's what's going on. This woman is 4 or 5 times as good an intern as I ever was and
I literally can't believe we are watching talent, bravery and dedication like that be treated like this, while junior docs are still working 60 hours plus a week. I am as angry about this as I have ever been about anything. Do better. Please, please any medical followers,DM me if
you have any leads on SHO jobs. She will consider anything and I would be very grateful @alankellylabour @loreillysf @DonnellyStephen @smytho
@geraldnash Hi Ged, would you have a think about this? Appalling way to treat workers.
