See, at first listen (and now multiple), I honestly didn’t take what Cole said to be offensive to Black Women as he often used certain instances in his life to generalize a message to the public. For years, I’ve been telling (and encouraging) the more knowledgeable to never speak
down on those perceived to not have as much privilege to learn and understand this movement our generation has been in since about 2012. Before even knowing what people believe he is referring to, I definitely appreciated him speaking to he being ignorant in situations but
really needing people to be patient as he learns. If BW did take offense to what he said, I can now understand after finding out what is believed to be linked to the lyrics. But this makes me ask, do we as a folx not have the capacity to ask for others to not condemn us, but help
teach and make us all knowledgeable about things happening right now? I guess I’m confused about that part.
I’ve just be a fan of Cole for years now and I’ve never believed his intent to be an attack towards our own people. And I certainly get that us as Black men have to take accountability & learn to navigate how not to be harmful but I really can’t fully grasp that being his intent.
