It is increasingly going to be the case that you’ll need to obtain an advanced to degree to know how to speak, write and signal in ways that broadcast you are not “racist.” In turn *seeming* not racist will be yet another arbitrary point of distinction between elites and masses.
But this will not actually help poor people of any color and it doesn’t take much imagination to see how it will in fact work to further stigmatize and antagonize a great many of them.
To condense all of the above: Sounding not racist will become a privilege.
Think of the conversation that happened around "Latinx" in recent years. Something like 9 out of 10 Latinos do not know that word or want to be referred to by that word but ultra-educated whites like Elizabeth Warren force it on them and everyone else.
To this day, I do not know if the word is pronounced "Latin-X" or "Lateenks" and I hold an advanced degree and do this professionally. I've recently taught at college campuses where there is no consensus on the pronunciation.
