5 years ago, Charleston was attacked. The evil man who perpetrated the crime is the result of unchecked white supremacy. 5 years later, I’m not sure we, the white community, can say that we’ve upheld our share of the burden for dismantling white supremacy.
I see renewed efforts today, and that gives me some hope. I also see white Christians refusing to acknowledge our complicity with systemic racism in America. It’s a hard thing to acknowledge, especially in ourselves. I am repenting of my own complicity with racism.
I hope that God will continue to convict me and remake my heart to love all people. I would just recommend to fellow white Christians to consider how the Holy Spirit might be at work in your own heart to see any complicity with racism.
I recommend @JemarTisby’s book The Color of Compromise as a good place to start if you’re looking for something to read.
