I got my DNA tested a while back and was interested in looking into my family history as I didn’t know much about my dads side (my grandad in particular) - all I knew was that they were Russian jews and even then I still wasn’t sure. I found something amazing (a thread)
So I don’t know their real surname as that was changed when they moved to the UK in the 1930’s which has made it hard to find information on them. On ancestry when you get your results it shows you matches (relations like 2nd 3rd and 4th cousins etc)
So! I found the closest cousin I could with 100% jewish DNA as I thought that might be a good place to start. I looked at this persons family tree and noticed that their relatives supposedly came from Russia too. I looked at some of the pictures they had attached to their tree
My granddad on the left, their great grandad on the right. I was stumped at how similar they were so I showed my dads sister (my aunt) and she was floored and said ‘he looks just like my dad!!’ She couldn’t believe it
I decided to contact this person because I couldn’t believe the likeness myself. We started to chat back and forward through email and they were really interested in finding more info too as they had hit a dead end like me. They’ve been researching for years
We started to have general chats about what we do etc and they said ‘I see you’re an illustrator, I worked in animation for 30 years or more’ - so I’m thinking ‘wow! 30 years is a long time, they must be good’ so I looked them up
Turns out they worked on one of the very first episodes of the Rugrats and also Ren and Stimpy, their Mam also worked in Warner Bros in Hollywood on the movie shorts back in the 1930s/40’s. I lost my shit I was so excited because no one else In my family can draw

I guess this is where my creativity comes from! We’re having our first video call over the weekend and I can’t wait
still researching and trying to find out more about our family but I think together we just might find something!

There’s no real ending to this story/thread, I just thought it was awesome
