Thread: There are 9000 evictions set to take place in the city of Memphis. Before you pass judgement and assume that everyone in danger of being evicted is irresponsible, let me explain to those who don't know what the socioeconomic climate is like in Memphis.....
Memphis is the shipping capital of the world. I'm not making that up. We have more packages, containers and cartons that move through here on a daily basis than any other place. On top of that most businesses here use temp force labor.
Most of these workers are underpaid with little to no insurance and no PTO. Now, add in a pandemic that limits the ability of these workers to continue earning their wages and you have a recipe for disaster. A $1200 stimulus will only go so far, especially if you have kids.
So while I understand that the law is the law, its unhumane to justify 9000 evictions in the midst of a pandemic as well as current tensions with police. I just don't know man.... Nothing makes sense anymore.
