Without increased Sick Pay, Test & Trace may not work https://twitter.com/policy_practice/status/1273217095841599488
Following excellent @The_TUC @antoniabance work on Sick Pay and self-isolation, we decided to look into how many low-income households might struggle to self-isolate if they had to rely on Sick Pay https://www.tuc.org.uk/news/workers-need-financial-support-quarantine-testing-and-tracing-work-says-tuc
The results show a serious problem - any working low-income household will lose out if self-isolation stops them working, even with UC to supplement their earnings. For some households, their losses could be unmanageable if they don’t return to work
If people can’t afford to self-isolate, this could seriously undermine Test & Trace’s attempts to contain COVID-19. So if we’re going to prevent recurring outbreaks, Sick Pay needs to be increased http://policyinpractice.co.uk/new-covid-19-analysis-finds-low-sick-pay-may-undermine-test-and-trace/
With MPs on both sides now raising this with the government,
it is now something they're looking at doing https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/14/aid-those-self-isolating-or-test-and-trace-will-fail-tory-mps-warn
