I’m penning down this thread to remember and commemorate all the Karnataka legends with whom I’ve played my cricket. I’m sure you guys will enjoy this segment. To begin, I’ll start with K.Jeshwanth, the former Karnataka captain #KarnatakaLegends
Kartik Jeshwant is one of those unsung heroes who played a great role in Karnataka’s success. A genuine all rounder (LHB & LA spin) averaged 44 with bat, 25 with ball & always scored vs TN. He also played for ROI in Irani cup & was in national reckoning for a while #KARLegends
PV Shashikanth (RHB) played over 50 mts for KAR & has close to 2500 runs. He was a great mentor for me during my early days. He led KAR to Irani cup in 1996 in seniors’ absence & also has the distinction of leading KAR to the finals of Mouinidullah tournament in 1994 #KARLegends
R. Ananth (Right arm off spinner), was one of those unsung heroes who did his job nonchalantly for KAR. He played 50 mts & picked 153 wkts at a superb avg of 25. He was part of the Karnataka team that won the Ranji Trophy in 1995/96. Lest we forget, here he is #KARLegends
J. Arun Kumar, my very good friend who’s fondly called JAK in KAR, is a batting stalwart with over 7K FC runs at a healthy avg of 43 with 20 centuries. He won 3 Ranji titles with KAR and also represented IND-A. He deserved to play for India @arunonline1975 #KARLegends
Sujith Somasunder was one of the prolific run getters for Karnataka who also represented India in 2 ODIs. He played 99 FC mts & scored over 5K runs. He was part of the Karnataka team that won the Ranji Trophy in 96, 98 and 99 and also led the team in a few games #KARLegends
Barrington Rowland started his FC career with a century on debut for Karnataka. From there he never looked back throughout his career. He played 68 mts and scored 4200 runs at an avg of 41 with 10 centuries. It’s unfortunate that he retired very early #KARLegends
K. Sriram who was part of the victorious Ranji team of 1995/96, played 15 mts for Karnataka & had the distinction of scoring a hundred (174) on debut vs TN. Interestingly his brother Srinath was playing for TN in the 96 finals. #ಸಹೋದರರ ಸವಾಲ್. Unfortunately he passed away in 2017.
Fazal Khaleel played 22 mts for Karnataka and was a part of the team that won the Ranji Trophy in 1997/98. His half-century against HYD in the semis of 1998 on a minefield was a top quality innings. Of late, he’s been doing a great job as the selector at the KSCA.
Vijay Bharadwaj, Karnataka’s batting mainstay in the middle order after Rahul Dravid. He won 3 Ranji titles with KAR & contributed in each of the finals he played. His 1260 runs in the 1998/99 season and the magical spell (6 wkts) in the finals earned him the Ind cap #KARLegends
Avinash Vaidya, our WK batsman who also opened the batting in the 1996 Ranji finals and provided a 100 run stand with Sujith, in both the innings. He was a fantastic keeper who played 46 mts for Karnataka and won a Ranji title.
