How to teach moral & ethics to our children? What are the activities they should be guilty of, actually? What are the things they should share openly with parents? These kind of questions were popping up in my head as i read a particular news , a girl sets self ablaze n died!
There should be clarity in associating a feeling of guilt to an act. There are things which we do in private. It has got two dimensions, 1. Things which we dont want others to see but even if they come to know about it, we wont be ashamed of! . Eg: bathing .
2. Theres a second type, acts which we would never want anybody to know. Eg. Stealing. And one should be guilty of only this latter act. But the sad truth is we are made to feel guilty of things of first type. Why should that 15 year old little girl set herself on fire?
I know the mental agony the child would have undergone! What if the parents had shared a bond strong enough for her to disclose the issue to them immediately? What if the parents had assured her that even if that bathing video is released , theres no big deal !
But parents are not to be blamed. The solace must come from the society. After all it was an act of cleaning! The dirty minds were pouring guilt into that fragile girl of doing that. Social stigma !
