India-China border standoff at Galwan Valley: Galwan Valley is named after legendary adventurer/explorer Ghulam Rassul Galwan of Leh who assisted the likes of Major Godwin-Austen. His grandson-in-law Abdul Majeed Bailay was with Intelligence Bureau&fought against Chinese in 1959.
On October 21, 1959, Abdul Majeed Bailay, as part of a search party, was ambushed by Chinese PLA soldiers near Hot Springs area close to Galwan river. He was wounded, survived, but captured.
In 2018, Bailay was honoured by PM Narendra Modi, along with three other surviving members from the Hot Springs search party, when PM inaugurated the renovated National Police Memorial & Museum in New Delhi.
The bravery and sacrifices of CRPF & IB personnel at the Hot Springs in 1959 is remembered every year on October 21 as the National Police Commemoration Day.
