If anyone out there is struggling to jumpstart that new passion project, please remember my grandma who, at 50, said fuck it—I’m starting a band.
She just got her church buddies together and they formed an actual southern gospel band. They toured churches and sold *merch* and they had the actual time of their lives.
Sometimes I would go “on tour” with them and my grandma would sit me on the front pew with some jolly ranchers and I’d just listen to my grandma and her buddies sing while eating candy! Life on the road was wild!
Anyway, like all legendary bands, they broke up over ego & drugs. But I still have some merch, like this magnet!
People are asking if there are recordings and like, yeah, they cut two albums
And this is not millennial 50. My grandma was born in the late 40s and married by age 17. I just think about what a risk it must’ve been for her to go after a passion. She had grown kids, grandkids, and my pops was disabled by that time. It just really rocks that she did that.
