There's a lot of mental fuckery going on.

When Obama and Biden were in the White House, I loved Joe Biden. I thought their bromance was adorable.

Then, when Joe Biden started running for president, my social media was filled with relentless attacks on @JoeBiden.
Slowly, my opinion on Joe Biden shifted. These attacks were coming from liberals. Joe Biden, the VP of the first black president, was a huge racist. He was a sexual predator. He was a corporatist, a neoliberal.

By now, I wasn't supporting him for president.
I hoped for anyone but Joe Biden. Joe Biden was the next Hillary Clinton. Everyone said he'd lose. I went from loving Joe Biden to outright hating him practically overnight.

I couldn't believe I had been suckered to like "Creepy Uncle Joe."
And I don't know what's true. I don't know who to trust. That's what is so insidious about it. It was liberals who were critiquing him the most, about causes I cared about as a liberal. I couldn't in good conscience vote for him, I thought.
But I remembered another thing about 2016, how Russia coopted Bernie pages. I followed a lot of them. They were among the first to say the Russia story was fake, going after Hillary long after Bernie conceded. My feed was filled with attacks against Hillary from Bernie pages.
Later, it came out that Russia was behind those attacks. They seem to be using the same playbook, and Americans are buying it all over again. Russia doesn't have to get you to vote for Trump. They just have to get you to not vote or vote third party.
And it's pretty easy for them to do that. They convince you that they're a liberal. They sound like they're standing up for liberal causes. You trust them. They seem right on the issues you care about. But their main goal is to fill your feed with attacks from people you trust.
At the end of the day, they're targeting their misinformation based on who is liberal and who is conservative. They play both sides, with misinformation targeted at both sides.

Be skeptical of anything you hear. There's a war for your minds. Be critical. Democracy depends on it
