One thing I’d like to see moving forward is for established pros to stop viewing comic conventions as an opportunity to meet girls. If you’re invited as a guest, you’re there in a professional capacity. If you can’t behave accordingly, let that comped travel go to someone better.
It’s honestly embarassing how many veteran comics pros I’ve seen accept an all expenses paid trip to your favorite conventions with the sole intention of using it as a personal vacation—it’s so unbelievably entitled and all of you who do this are a waste of space at these events.
How dare you approach young women who are starstruck and hopeful and eager to break in to the indutry with the intention of asking them back to your hotel rooms at these events. These women are your future colleagues. How dare you disrespect them like this. It’s beyond pathetic.
You’re supposed to be the adult in the room. You *know* that newer creators and fans idolize you and and instead of carefully considering the level of responsibility you have to make this industry a space they can thrive in, you abuse that power in the most disgusting ways.
I have seen way too many established professionals get utterly wasted and *sloppy* at events (or sometimes just, hotel bars) where it is likely they will be interacting with fans, younger creators, and industry newcomers. Why are you like this??? Don’t do this at these events.
Actually don’t even go to these events. Why are you going to bar con in the first place, you absolute fucking goblins. You don’t need to be there, prowling around for your next one night stand or whatever. Have a modicum of professionalism, or stay home.
