i can distinguish between reality and fiction. trust me, i KNOW the fucking difference. what i read in a completely fictional space is entirely separated from what people close to me have gone through. i have completely different emotional responses to fiction and reality.

aotc/rots obidala (which is what most everyone ships) is completely harmless. the only anti argument against it is “they met in tpm when she was 14 and he was 24” which yes would be unhealthy if they were real but they aren’t.
padme isn’t even around him extensively in tpm, and hasn’t seen him again in any real capacity between tpm and aotc. in canon there’s no opportunity for him to even be grooming her. it’s just ridiculous to say anyone who ships obidala is disgusting.
just seeing how these ppl are So Weirdly Obsessed w controlling what other ppl ship.. and about ships that ppl have been writing about for longer than these ppl have even been alive... like darthfett! antis ”called out” this one artist who drew it bc in tcw young boba and anakin+
actually do meet (again, not in any capacity that would allow anakin to groom young boba but they don’t actually they about that). and the real icing on the cake is this artist hadn’t even seen much of tcw, they were just basing it off of the original trilogy!
watching how antis interact w characters and ships that have different nuances depending on which canon media you have consumed.. and just completely missing the mark for realizing and accepting that ppl have diff interpretations based off of this.. oof.

if you’re uncomfortable w her being 17 in tcw s7, then just do what many ppl do and age her up to 20 or 22 lmao it’s not real. or do what i do in my ideal maulsoka au where they don’t actually get together until a few years after order 66, you don’t even have to age her up.
it’s just... all the mental gymnastics to prevent yourself from having any sort of fun.... and another anti argument, they say that pro shippers believe that “fiction doesn’t affect reality”, and after actually seeing what pro shippers are saying, they don’t believe that!
pro shippers are very capable of acknowledging the variety of ways that fiction reflects and influences our ideas and morals, they just are also capable of realizing that some fanfic on ao3 w 250 hits is not going to make everyone think that incest is ok.
people have been writing these unsavory things for DECADES, in fandom spaces, in pulp romance novels, etc. this phenomenon is not new at all. i refuse to further participate in controlling and shaming people for something that is ultimately harmless.
watching these people call 16 year olds pedophiles for shipping maulsoka, or calling reylos abuse apologists then turning around and shipping obimaul. it’s just so performative and makes it clear that these ppl have no actual intention of actually “protecting” anyone.
