The first decade of Govtech was mostly funded by government, so it solved government problems. Govtech companies have helped cities, counties, states and agencies in the federal government provide more accessible services and access to info.
What if this next decade could be funded on a different premise - improving lives. What if investors funded tools that helped people who are victims of police brutality or sexual assault or domestic violence that could help bring their attackers to justice?
We can't change a system when the system is writing the checks. But while investors are scrambling to get more diversity on their balance sheets, they should also be scrambling to fund teams that can use GovTech's runway to make change happen faster.
I love the work we do with cities and government agencies. We've helped change lives with the tools we've helped deploy. I'd also love to help build tools that city councils won't fund because it doesn't fit their goals. We need a different funding model for those tools.
