1) I fled a domestic violence relationship when my oldest was only two and my youngest was not yet one. I had to go homeless and on benefits to survive.
2) By the time oldest was in school I went to college because I had an ambition to be a lawyer because I'm actually super smart and wanted to inspire my kids. So my income was low during college and oldest was getting free school meals.
3) nobody would give me a summer job before uni for 1 month (so had to struggle with little to no help until I started uni)
4) uni I was on student loans and it was tight for three years both my kids were on free school meals. I graduated with 2:1 in law and internships at some good law firms. Interviewed a major league firm and some others. Many knock backs for the fact I had children.
5) Got offered a job as a paralegal and worked full time for a year, but my income didnt even pay my rent. Had to rely on benefits to top me up and keep me floating.
6) left said law firm because the hours I was working and taking work home with me amongst other issues wasnt worth the crap pay and constantly being late to pick my kids up from childcare and missing all their important things
7) worked part time in educational field so I could be more present for my children and relied on top up of benefits and free school meals. Basically the same as when I was working full time minus childcare expenses.
8) left education sector now, and decided to go into another area that supports me working from home so I can be there even more for my kids.
But the point is I've worked extremely hard all my life but the system makes it hard for you to break the poverty barrier.
9)If only rich people reproduced there would be no manual labour workforce, there would be no nurses and carers, there would be no cleaners, there would be no paralegals or educators.
10) A lot of single mums work hard and dont get lucky. They also have to balance work with parenting. Because if they dont invest time in their children then their children are less likely to grow up to be respectful and emotionally well members of society.
