There are some people who for whatever reason — a mania for “bipartisanship,” a tic toward normalizing the powerful, personal interest, etc. — will always be taken in by Trump’s moments of faux normalcy. But today’s bizarre meander can’t be rewritten as an actual policy advance.
He spent most of the press conference either praising himself, fawning over police and chirping erratically about policies irrelevant to policing reform. His small nods to reform amounted to gently suggesting maybe not choking people to death... well unless you feel you must...
And keeping some lists...
There was nothing serious or new offered. And nothing superior to the actual law that House Democrats are proposing. The rest of it, including Trump meeting with black victims’ families (pictures or videos of which I promise you, WILL be used in his campaign) were just theater.
