The incident was originally framed as evidence of escalating violence at protests against police brutality after George Floyd's death. In fact, it was more evidence that anti-government extremists were trying to exploit the protests to further their violent agendas.
Eight days after the shooting at the federal courthouse, 80 miles south of Oakland, someone reported a white van apparently abandoned. Inside there were guns, ammo, explosive materials, and a tactical vest with this patch on it.
Investigators linked the van to Airman Steve Carrillo. They went to his property, a gunfight ensued, & he killed a sheriff's deputy.
