New Labours manifesto states: "Under the Home Office, we will establish a Driving & Licensing Agency with a responsibility
of streamlining the driver training programmes."

We all know too well that this has been tried in the past, and has been thrown out the window every time, why is that?
Well, we have to ask, what does it mean for our emergency services?

What it means, is the process for obtaining a drivers license for any officer will be handed off to this government run agency, whom they will decide is best to give our officers licenses.
Why is this an issue?

For a start, government agencies tend to be consistently slow, especially when they have no experience in dealing with the matter.
People could end up waiting weeks for a simple driving test.
Why it's bad they're moving the responsibility from the individual departments?

Well the departments have the knowledge to train their own staff without government interference, they know better than anyone their OWN standards.
Driving tests are not a required event to drive in the United Kingdom, but our officers are all currently trained.

If driving isn't up to standard, an issue is raised with Home Office command who will initiate a re-test for the officer.
Let's understand the bigger implications here though:
Drivers training would no longer be a basic part of police training

While the GMP, NWAS and GMFRS currently have the autonomy to determine their driving standards, and to give their staff the training they need to proceed onto full employment from probationary...
This would not be the case under a DVLA.

What this policy does is create a bureaucratic mess, all of which is completely unnecessary and most likely because Labour's home office policy lacks so much subsistence that they had to bring back a terrible policy to fill the space between the blank words and meaningless policy
Vote for a Home Office that will take action on basic points, and innovate the department for the better.
