A word of caution, directed at no one in particular. If you're tweeting/RT-ing something that sounds extraordinary, or too good to be true, it probably is.
Balakot and Swift Retort showed us how misinfomation and disinformation fly thick and fast during the first few hours of an armed clash. Think hard before you amplify it.
In Feb 2019, I saw frenzied tweets declaring one of more of the below:
- The IAF had struck and destroyed Pakistan's air defences.
- A MiG-21 had been shot down.
- An Su-30 was lost.
- All IAF aircraft had been accounted for.
- The IAF had struck and destroyed Pakistan's air defences.
- A MiG-21 had been shot down.
- An Su-30 was lost.
- All IAF aircraft had been accounted for.
- Two F-16s were lost.
- A cruise missile had struck Srinagar.
- The Mi-17 was brought down by an AMRAAM.
... and so on and so forth. How much of that turned out to be true when the dust settled?
