I usually stay real quiet but there is a lot of toxic shit in the bl industry that a majority of people overlook and it should never have been defended or ignored. Blatant transphobia, sexism, homophobia, colorism, sexual harassment and romanticisation of r*ape and like actions
Let’s not forget inappropriate age gaps, complete invasions of privacy of actors, outright disrespect and misrepresentation of the LGBT+ community, fetishisation... and this just scratches the surface. This is a ring of fetishisation for coins.
As a whole we can’t continue to ignore everything these people do. Whether it’s on a larger scale or individual actions the bl industry has a lot to answer for but as long as we are putting money in their pockets they don’t care.
There comes a time where we need to think about whether we are really willing to sell out and ignore our morals for actors we don’t even know and an industry that doesn’t actually care (I know of course there are exceptions).
Tbh I’ve felt this for a while. But we cannot keep ignoring these things because the individual cases of gross behaviours are part of an even bigger issue that needs to be addressed and dealt with.
Also please stop with the narrative that “this is why we need to cast actual members of the lgbt+ community” like suddenly that’ll stop ignorance. You can still be lgbt+ and be problematic. We need to cast and hire decent, well educated, non-ignorant, hard working, kind people.
I still do agree that more lgbt+ people need to be casted in dramas that are apparently supposed to be representing our experiences. It’s disgusting that actual lgbt+ actors are overlooked in favour of straight ones. We need representation.
