The next Jimmy Butler? How Jaylen Brown emerged as an elite Two Way Wing this season. A Thread:
His ability as a slasher allows him to create space better in the mid range and players sag off slightly to not allow him to drive by them especially smaller players which he uses his strength to overpower them
Here he takes Adebayo off the dribble and showcases his strength to finish through Bam and score
An underrated improvement has been his secondary/counter moves off the dribble when defenders cut off his primary moves, which allows him to stay patient now and more efficient when creating his shot.
Here Brown sizes up Jimmy Butler, uses a nice crossover to create space and hit the deep shot
Brown loves using hesitation moves either into a pull-up or drive as he does here, the threat of his drives freeze defenders allowing him to take the mid range which he has done more this season or drive on slower defenders as he does here
Posting up the smaller Nwaba and uses a great spin move to create separation for his mid range jumper
Here again he uses his between the leg, hesitation combo to freeze a good perimeter defender in thybulle and finish at the rim
He still has ways to improve his passing and his handle. While his handle has improved he isn’t consistent enough to be a primary option now but with his work ethic he can certainly get to that point
His shooting as well is still streaky,and can improve but he has improved immensely the last 2-3 seasons. He is a very good corner shooter currently and has improved his pull up 3s. He has the foundation to continue to improve his offensive impact and become an elite two way wing
Here he is able to stay with Pascal Siakam and force a bad pass and turnover keep in mind he’s played primarily SG this season
These next ones are from last season, he fights through the screen and contests the shot leading to the block on Kevin Durant, shows his motor and hustle to finish the play and get the block
He fights through the screen again and doesn’t allow KD to get comfortable position in the post and beautifully contests this shot
Brown is able to stay here with Westbrook one of the most explosive guards in NBA History
I didn’t spend much time on his defense as most people know him primarily as a defender but this was to show his improvements in his all around game.
