Despite substantial evidence that wearing masks reduces the spread of #COVID19 (and apparently just following @BrianKempGA lead) the @BORUSG is not requiring students and faculty to wear masks. This poses a massive public health risk. @AUG_University 1/n https://www.chronicle.com/article/In-Some-States-This-Fall/248983?key=wYmokCnDzR4h9eFNudrs4sC3QnYXMPiW65nmwFx0rPCRG-N-3cXk2fJEy93ZuVnXODhLRFFsbmFKREVLc0M1bVJVbHNKWW1nRHBwTHQtUVF5bTc3XzNMTUQtMA
Masks are the most effective public health measure for #COVID19. Makes it a bit odd for the leading public medical university ( @MCG_AUG) in GA to ignore this public health evidence. 2/n https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2020/06/10/2009637117
Not only does it risk a public health outbreak but faculty are powerless to enforce a mask wearing rule in their own classes, risking the health of themselves, their students, and their communities. 3/n
Chancellor Wrigley argues “We are not making any of these practices requirements but instead are encouraging everyone to follow all of these practices together,” Wrigley wrote. “It is a shared responsibility.” 4/n
No that is not shared responsibility it is an abdication of responsibility. Our individual health is contingent on other people wearing masks. This cannot be an individual risk calculus, which is where we now are in #HigherEducation. 5/end
