If ur part of an org and your plan is to reach out to a random Indigenous person u know and ask them to do a (unpaid, uncompensated) land acknowledgement for your event even though it may or may not even be their land ur on, my advice is that you reconsider ur whole life 😌✨
If your entire motivation for wanting to “include” Indigenous people in your event is for the optics and/or what Indigenous people can do for YOU, I am here to tell you that you are trash, your politics are trash, your org is trash, and you’re a bad person!!!
A better idea: acknowledge the past and current harm done by settler presence on what is now and always has been Indigenous land, and what your actual concrete plan for ur org is to BEGIN to attempt a reciprocal relationship with the ppl whose land ur trespassing on 🖤
Short thread on how to compensate an Indigenous person for a land acknowledgement if that’s still the route you’re taking, and please at the very least ask someone whose land you’re actually occupying: https://twitter.com/beadagainstfash/status/1272963953136672769?s=21 https://twitter.com/beadagainstfash/status/1272963953136672769
