Thread: We've been posting bail systemically since 2013, & we know this for certain - as easy as it is for police, prosecutors, & prisons to cage people it is 100x harder to get them free. This is not a glitch in the system, it is like this ON PURPOSE. 1/8

Bail is used exclusively to ensure someone stays in a cage; Judges, DAs, Sherriffs, do not want people to go free. When people are incarcerated, they are more likely to take a plea and less likely to go to trial, OF COURSE this system makes it hard to get ppl free. 2/8

Bails routinely take days & weeks to coordinate because everywhere you turn there are unknown holds, uncooperative staff, faxes that didn't get sent, records that didn't get updated, DAs & Judges that are uncaring, and an entire racist system BUILT to torture & kill. 3/ 8

Working through the brutality of beaurocracy that is the the bail system takes hundreds of hours of person power, extensive coordinated understanding of a system that is obtuse ON PURPOSE, and a commitment to doing the work long term so that ppl inside can count on you . 4/8

Bail funds, excepting those with enormous corporate backing, have been doing this work from a place of scarcity, with mostly volunteers with other jobs, and never enough money to answer the bottomless bail need, let alone time and resources to create infrastructure. 5/8

Anytime we post a bail, protest or otherwise, we are pushing back against a system of racialized social control and violence. The $$ we & the @bailfundnetwork community has received these past 3 weeks shows how many of you also support this pushback. 6/8

Bail Funds will continue figuring out to get people free on bail, we will continue working with our local movement partners, and holding ourselves accountable to the Black-led organizing in our communities & to the organizing led by impacted ppl. 7/8

The bail system, like the PIC, is a many headed hydra of destruction. Building sustainable models to fight & dismantle it takes time and care. Attacking newly enriched bail funds instead of the system that cages people makes the fight harder. #FreeThemAll 8/8
