I’ve studied and worked with nonprofits for 15 years.
Absorbing a sudden influx of funds into a small community volunteer organization like @MNFreedomFund is among the top challenges a nonprofit can face.

The @MNFreedomFund had *one* professional staffer and a $10k budget for bail a month ago.
Now they have $35 million.
No organization has the absorptive capacity to even process that much, let alone disburse and put it into the community, in such a short amount of time.

More money means hiring and training more professional staff.
It means setting up new systems for legal compliance, data management, accountability to constituents, communication, public relations, and tracking impact - all non-negotiables for nonprofits now.

To imagine an organization like @MNFreedomFund could possibly get all that money out the door in just a few weeks is ludicrous.
Especially when they’re a volunteer organization thrust into the international spotlight.
Managing our expectations is important.
