So I went to sleep thinking about what happened with Cameron many many years ago and just wanted to pin down his particular brand of predatory behaviour because it’s NOT uncommon
There’s this kind of guy, and you see him SO MUCH in LA, who only dates younger women. Not KIDS, but older teens, “mature” college students, definitely not saying no to dipping his toes into texting underage girls, not touching, because that’s “safe”
They usually have some kind of power - a job, a talent, money - that draws girls in. Their entire vibe is curated to attract vulnerable girls, girls who haven’t learned to smell bullshit yet, who will coo and awe and adore them
They’re not assaulting anyone in a way that can be pinned down. Since sometimes the girls are 23 and sometimes 19, his friends just make fun. He gets away with it, if not outright encouraged
He’s aloof. Distant. Handsome. Tells you you’re special. He’s designed to make you vie for his attention. This is all guys like this. It’s like a stock character. Honey for traumatized girls.
So it’s hard to say “this guy is a predator” because SOME of it is “fine.” That’s intentional. The plausable deniability is SO huge.
The only way to scare off guys like this is to have your own needs, career, agenda. They want a girl who teases but not questions. They refuse to work on themselves so they just cycle through girls young enough to fall for their shit. And that, folks? That is MESSED UP.
If this happened to you, let me be maybe (but hopefully not) the first person to say IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT. Because everyone else loves to blame the girl. Not me. I am the girl. I have infinite love and forgiveness for the girl. The person. The victim who doesn’t know it yet
CS did not groom me for months, but I knew other people he did it to. And I’ve been in Aviva’s situation with different men. It’s so common. Men REALLY need to start checking each other and calling this out bc they won’t listen to US
Because I know that with CS, all the older comics guys, all the men in comics in Toronto, they ALL know. They knew. Maybe not about the 16 year olds, but the 18s. The 21s. From a 35+yo man. “Oh, that rascal! Incorrigible!”

These guys expect us to disappear when they’re done. When we ask too much or shine too bright or get too vocal. When we grow up and they don’t.
