I can’t tell you what will solve racism, there are better people than me who can say more about that. I can however tell you something about what can solve inequality and that is increasing opportunity to money and power for the disadvantaged people.

My humble and personal list of what we can all do to help:
1. Be informed and support policies that will improve financial well being of minorities, a lot of these are handled at the local level and relate to how small fines are handled.
2. Provide affordable health insurance to your employees so their health is not getting in the way of their success. Many minorities who grew up poor may have more health issues than others because some issues may not have beed addressed at the time.
3. Find out and buy from minority owned local shops, if there is a specific type of content you pay to consume see if historically underprivileged people are involved. Not exclusively, just add them into your list.
4. Provide job opportunities to minorities by taking into account challenges they have to overcome and how this translates as success in non-traditional ways when evaluating applicants. Do not be sidetracked by false-equivalency of why hiring minorities is “reducing standards”.
5. Even if you don’t use them personally, support infrastructure that supports low income populations like public libraries, public transportation, public schools etc.
6. If you know someone in need who has kids consider giving them money to buy school supplies, or if you know the school requirements buy their school supplies for them
7. If there is a fee for a school event volunteer with the school to pay for the fees of the kids who can’t pay it. If the school has a scholarship for these opportunities consider contributing.
8. If your daycare has scholarships for parents who can’t afford daycare consider contributing
9. Give scholarships and tangible contributions for minorities to join conferences, talks, certifications etc.
10. Pay your interns so income is not a reason talented people can’t take advantage of the learning experience.
11. Pay minorities the same as their peers and give them opportunities to advance in their careers.
12. Make sure to highlight their success publicly, thanks them publicly, recommend them to others
13. If they are producing content for free; like, upvote or do the equivalent action to improve their standing if you like their content.
14. If you used their services (plumbers, workers, gardeners etc) and you liked their service, promote them on review websites like Google, Yelp etc.
15. If you know someone who has a beat up car that needs minor fixes pay to fix their car, if they need headlights or other aspects fixed that may get them in trouble with the police pay for or help them fix that.
I’m sure there are many other ways but the main point is that they need your help in tangible ways that can help them out in this structurally unfair system while we also fight to change the system itself.
