Ballarat is my hometown and a City I love despite some dark history with pedophiles. I do not condone vandalism of public or private property as was the case with the damage to the Statues in the Botanical Gardens.
In some examples such as statues of Slave Traders etc I do understand where some of the anger may be coming from. But there are better ways of doing things. My intention is not to draw a comparison as such, but the death camps such as Auschwitz etc, should they be pulled down?
History with all its evil should not be buried and forgotten. Statues of certain individuals may be left not to honour them, with Plaques attached to tell the true story of the individual/s! Before everyone shrieks with horror, I am not suggesting this for the PM statues.
Now I wish to point out that I am not an admirer of former PMs Howard or Abbott but a long way from it. And I believe that history will show them up for what they really were, and not the sanitized delusional view their disciples have of them.
Notice how quick the Murdoch Press and its supporters were to call out the blame for the damage to the PM statues on. In their words, "left wing radicals", and the comment "that the attack was more than likely carried out by those on the left".
The comment also that this nation's history was built on fairness , not bitterness, envy and division needs to be told to the Coalition Government. A Government that is steeped in Rorting, Lying, Cheating, Above the Law etc. It does not meet any of those desirable attributes.
The attitude of the Coalition and the Murdoch Press only goes to further fan any division within the community and is against any good that they pretend to be defending!
