Before renaming branches, let's FIRST do this.

1. Remove degree reqs from tech job postings.
2. Recognize talents that aren't just coding ability. Creativity. Resilience. Inclusiveness.
3. Mentor black folks.
4. Donate to orgs like @BlackGirlsCode. /

RT for reach.
These are activities that have real, measurable impact.

Naming is important. But, it's more important to lift up those who haven't gotten a fair shot. /
My greatest fear is that we argue about names, rename some branches, pat ourselves on the back, and go on with our day.

Meanwhile, nothing of import has actually changed! /
In order to make real change, we need to step out of our comfort zone.

What's comfortable? Naming arguments on Twitter. Renaming branches.

What's uncomfortable? Acknowledging bias in tech. Acknowledging talents that are different than yours. Supporting those who need it. /
Let's take a look at black tech twitter. What are they talking about? What really matters? What are their daily struggles?

Performative solidarity is just that. Performative. You feel good, and you've done almost nothing. /
Here's my challenge to you. Do something meaningful and uncomfortable this week. Tweet about it. Whenever you see a naming argument, reply with the real actions you're taking. Encourage others to do the same. /
Branch names are not our greatest problem. Systematic racism, poverty, and lack of opportunity -- those are the problems we need to tackle first. /
As always, I want to hear from #BlackTechTwitter on where I got it wrong. Tell me what matters to you. I'll amplify as best as I can. Your voices and struggles matter to me. đź–¤
