Tostão has to be one of the all time most under appreciated footballers.

- 320 Career Goals in 499 Games
- Played as both a no.10/SS and a CF.
- Cruzeiro’s all time Top Goalscorer
- 32 goals in 54 games for 🇧🇷

Played his last 🇧🇷 game at 25! And retired at 26.
He was a genius footballer with a brilliant footballing brain that could play anywhere offensively, with a wand of a left foot. Stuck up an incredible partnership and understanding with Pelé. And was a key part of Brazil’s 1970 team and greatest ever World Cup performance.
And he retired from football at just 26!

Aged 22 he was struck in the head with the ball so hard it detached his retina. His sight problems kept resurfacing after surgical attempts to fix the problem.

249 goals for Cruzeiro alone & 32 for Brazil by the age of 25 is incredible
He was a true genius, wand of a left foot that could play everywhere offensively. A footballer with a brilliant brain and footballing understanding.

Don’t forget he gave Pelé his greatest and only cup final defeat beating Santos 9-4 on aggregate in the 1966 Taça Brasil.
If Tostão’s career hadn’t cruelly been cut short he could have comfortably scored 600+ career goals & would be alongside Pelé, Ronaldo, Neymar & Romário as 🇧🇷 all time top scorers.

And further recognised as one of footballs greatest ever players.
Tostão’s career was essentially cut in half.

Yet he still scored 320 goals between the ages of 15-26, before his peak. Averaging 30 goals a season despite often playing a more withdrawn role as a number 10.

He won the 1970 Brasileirão Golden boot & 1971 South American POTY.
He finished top scorer in the 1970 World Cup Qualifiers with 10 goals out of every single nation in South America, Europe & elsewhere.

Voted as the 5th greatest Brazilian of the 20th century & 13th in South America.

Tostão, no doubt should be considered a footballing genius.
