The Argentine prisoners were to leave they didn't know we marched them out of the Life Machine it in a long line it was the begining of the end I felt a bit sad I had got used to them being around we had Argentine Doctors and translators all very nice chaps
As they were marching out I looked at one of their young lads he had his helmet I pointed to it he pulled it into himself he didn't know he was leaving I put my hand on it and he pulled back I offered him a packet of cigarettes he handed me his helmet and I smiled
Your going home mate I said he didn't understand but was happy with the cigarettes and off they marched unluckily I lost the helmet in my chaotic life but it wasn't the helmet that was valuable to me it was what was written in it I would have liked to return the helmet
We were going to be the next to leave it was quiet sad we were a great Unit I was treated like an equal I had learned so much probably seen to much I had done the job I had been trained for so off to Stanley on a Chopper we landed on the football pitch next to the Hospital
It was crazy wild west we walked down Ross road it was packed with Argentine troops the most disturbing thing was their officers carrying weapons we were used to prisoners but these outnumbered us immensely and carrying arms the whole place was littered with weapons
Every side road was packed with troops after a some check on any medical needs and a good old nosey around and a check in the Hospital we were Choppered to Fitzroy back to our Unit the first thing we saw was the Galahad still burning
I had sort of put this out of my mind because we had been so busy with all the action hardly any sleep we didn't even know who was KIA the Unit was still up and running and taking casualties Their were massive piles of weapons dotted around
