They take you through queer history and ideas in a very straightforward and readable way, covering a lot of the core concepts, terminology and where they came from
These short wee books also both use a comics format to get their points across, and are great to share with people who may feel uneasy about starting to talk about these issues
For young people asking questions about gender, and what being trans means for them, this is a great introductory guide
Again, it grounds being trans in the lived experience of those who are trans, and offers a very practical viewpoint

Trans Britain, from @christineburns, takes that further and fills out the history of trans people in the UK in their own words - turning abstract debates into stories of real people, including the impact of how the mainstream sees them has on them
This, I think, is essential reading for any medical practitioner who wants to better understand how they can support and provide care for trans people
There are plenty more books out there, but each of these has hugely helped me to understand better
