Thread from my IG:
Confronting Filipinx Anti-Blackness and How to Avoid Indigenous Erasure

I don’t have all the answers, like at all, but I’m giving what I can so we can collectively do better!
1. Going beyond papaya soap discussions and being brave enough to have tough conversations with family about anti-Black and anti-Indigenous sentiments.

*inspired by a post abt “egot” because my mom and I didn’t even know that was a word!!
2. Learn about indigenous peoples (in the Philippines and elsewhere) but stop sharing black and white photos of them from World Fair, etc. We aren’t props to be used in a discussion on anti-Blackness, but real people with real, present-day issues.
3. Don’t be silent when you see Fil-Am brands and influencers who use Indigenous people or culture for clout and profit. Please speak up. Allyship is a verb. Chances are, these same people use Black culture for similar reasons. Interrogate it at every turn.
4. I’ve said this before, but consuming Indigenous and Black culture just won’t be avoided. But we can all be brave enough to ask who collaborates, who benefits, and who has power in those relationships.
5. Confronting anti-Blackness is NECESSARY work, but it cannot come at the expense of Indigenous peoples!
6. Photo says: Lastly, white supremacist systems oppress us, globally. But each of us, individually, must ask:
How does the status quo benefit me?
What will I do to dismantle it anyway?
7. I’ve made these points before for years and I know it’s hard to learn more. I also don’t like being asked for resources LMAO. But I did my best to come up with actionable ideas to work through guilt and towards justice!
Lastly, this thread is not meant to detract or distract from the real goals of the movement, namely, abolition! Rather, it’s meant to point all of us in the right direction of building a world where All Black Lives Matter.
