[THREAD] I’ve decided to reach out to film journalism publications to encourage the implementation of accessible features such as alt text and captions. It is vital to include disabled and Deaf writers in an industry that already systematically excludes disabled people
I am so pleased to work with @flipscreened and @scratchcinema who have dedicated themselves to this initiative. If you are a volunteer based publication and you would like accessibility advice from me, then my DMs are open and I’d gladly write up some guidelines
If you are interested in making your content accessible, and you are able to pay a fee, then I would be more than interested in working with publications who want to accommodate disabled audiences and writers
If you can retweet, then I’d appreciate any support! Disabled people shouldn’t have to fight or struggle for access to films or film criticism. The magic of cinema should be a shared experience, one that everyone can immerse themselves in
Update: @screenqueenz @JumpCut_Online and @UKFReview have all joined this initiative
if outlets aren’t accessible, then they’re not inclusive. Please reach out into the disability community. Blind and Deaf people should be able to experience and enjoy cinema freely
