Whigg-ish thread, expressing and then qualifying some of my more Whiggish opinions.
1. There has been some moral progress. Pinker has done an ok job at trying to demonstrate this, and I respect him for putting the effort in. https://twitter.com/danlburrows/status/1271012508380397570?s=20
2. Political liberty, in the sense of non-domination, government by counsel and consent, subjection of the prince to the natural, and at least the fundamental postive, law etc is good. https://twitter.com/GodSaveTheKane/status/1271412902193500161?s=20
3. Positive-sum economic games are important and good. https://twitter.com/DouglasCarswell/status/1270420957426003969?s=20
My Whiggism has a crucial, un-Whiggish rider, however: all of these good, Whiggish things have deep roots in the medieval era, Christian theology, and the Catholic Church. https://twitter.com/holland_tom/status/1181686010352156672?s=20
4/5: science is good, was going to copy in one of EKG's relevant threads till I remembered that he's locked. Anyway modern science has Christian origins too.
