Every day for the next 50, I'll be spotlighting one woman writer from around the world who maybe hasn't gotten much international attention... and maybe hasn't even been translated.

50 Days Until #WITMonth: Léonora Miano is a multi-award-winning Cameroonian-French writer. Some of her books have been translated into English - Season of the Shadow (tr. Gila Walker) and Dark Heart of the Night (tr. Tamsin Black) - however the vast majority remain untranslated.

49 Days Until #WITMonth: Emmelie Prophète is a Haitian poet and novelist, who won the Prix littéraire des Caraïbes for her novel Testament des Solitudes. Her works are not currently available in any English translation.

48 Days Until #WITMonth: Bessora is a Belgian-Swiss multi-award-winning writer. Her graphic novel Alpha (illust. Barroux and trans. Sarah Ardizzone) is available in English translation and won an @englishpen award, the @GlobalLitinLibs translated YA award, and more.

47 Days Until #WITMonth: Thi Mar Win is a Burmese poet. Several of her poems have been translated into English by Kenneth Wong, with a few available through Poetry International ( @poetry_int).

46 Days Until #WITMonth: Maria Celestina Fernandes is an Angolan author with a large body of award-winning Portuguese-language children's books, as well as other publications. None of her works appear to have been translated into English.

45 Days Until #WITMonth: Igiaba Scego is an Italian writer, whose works are often influenced by her own cross-cultural Italian-Somali experiences. Two of her books have been translated into English: Adua (tr. Jamie Richards) and Beyond Babylon (tr. Aaron Robertson).

44 Days Until #WITMonth: Chantal Spitz is French Polynesian writer. One of too few Pacific novelists in translation and the first published Mā’ohi writer, Spitz's 1991 debut novel Island of Shattered Dreams was translated into English in 2007 by Jean Anderson.

43 Days Until #WITMonth: Lucie Julia is a writer from Guadeloupe who has published works in both French and Antillean Creole. Despite a prolific and award-winning career since 1982, none of her works appear to be available in English translation.

40 Days Until #WITMonth: Irma Pineda is a bilingual Isthmus Zapotec-Spanish language poet from Mexico. Her poems have been featured in English translation by @CATranslation and @worldlittoday, though none of her full-length books appear to be available in English.

39 Days Until #WITMonth: Conceição Lima is a poet from São Tomé Island, with several published poetry collections. Some of her poems have been featured in such publications as @wwborders and @worldlittoday, however none of her books are currently available in English translation.

38 Days Until #WITMonth: Béatrice Lalinon Gbado is a Beninese children's book writer and publisher, with dozens of publications to her name. One has been translated into English and is currently available as an eBook: Beautiful Debo, illustrated by Ponce E. Kokou Zannou, tr. ?

37 Days Until #WITMonth: Aminata Sow Fall is an award-winning writer from Senegal who has been publishing since the 1970s. Her novella The Beggar's Strike was translated into English by Dorothy Blair in 1986. It is no longer in print and is virtually unavailable for purchase.

36 Days Until #WITMonth: Marie-Andrée Gill is an Ilnu and Québécois poet and writer. Her books have been finalists for different Canadian book awards, however her full length works are not yet available in English translation.

35 Days Until #WITMonth: Agnès Agboton is a Beninese and Catalonian writer who writes in Spanish and Gun, with poems recently featured in New Daughters of Africa (tr. @lawrenceschimel). Her full-length books are not available in English.

34 Days Until #WITMonth: Salma Khalil Alio is a Chadian writer and artist. She has published a poetry collection as well as several graphic works and comics (some of which are available online), while supporting art more broadly. Her work is not available in English translation.

33 Days Until #WITMonth: Monique Ilboudo is an award-winning Burkinabé novelist, poet, and essayist. While some of her poems were featured in the anthology A Rain of Words, none of her full-length works are currently available in English translation.

32 Days Until #WITMonth: Shaïda Zarumey (Fatoumata Agnès Diaroumèye) is a Francophone Nigerien writer and poet. A few of her poems were featured in the collection A Rain of Words (ed. Irène Assiba d'Almeida, tr. Janis A. Mayes).

31 Days Until #WITMonth: Shelly Engdau‐Vanda is an Ethiopian-Israeli writer and academic. Her work on the lives of Ethiopian-Israeli young adults who made the dangerous journey to Israel as children in the 1980s was published in Hebrew in 2019 to acclaim.

29 Days Until #WITMonth: Samudra Neelima is a Malayalam poet from India. Her poems have been translated into English and published in different online journals including @asymptotejrnl, however her published book is unavailable in English.

23 Days Until #WITMonth: Najwa Bin Shatwan is an acclaimed Libyan novelist and playwright. Her novel The Slave Yards was shortlisted for the IPAF and recently translated into English by Nancy Roberts (published by @SUPress).

19 Days Until #WITMonth: Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro is an award-winning Puerto Rican writer. Her short story collection Negras (tr. Alejandro Álvarez Nieves) was independently published in 2017.

18 Days Until #WITMonth: Nadia Al-Kokabany is an acclaimed Yemeni writer. While excerpts of her works have been translated into English (e.g. by Thoraya El-Rayyes, published @wwborders), her full length works do not appear to be available in English.

16 Days Until #WITMonth: Amal Aden is a Somali-Norwegian writer of predominantly nonfiction. Her writing has garnered praise in Norway for its handling of topics ranging from homelessness to Islam to queer activism. Her works do not appear to be available in English translation.

15 Days Until #WITMonth: Marie-Célie Agnant is a Haitian-Canadian novelist, poet, and children's writer. Her novel The Book of Emma was translated into English by Zilpha Ellis, however her other works do not appear to be available in English.

14 Days Until #WITMonth: Conceição Evaristo is an acclaimed Brazilian writer. Her 2003 novel Ponciá Vicêncio was translated into English by Paloma Martinez-Cruz and published by @hostpublication.

13 Days Until #WITMonth: Karin Amatmoekrim is a Surinamese-Dutch writer. She has written several novels and won the inaugural Black Magic Woman Literatuurprijs, however none of her works appear to be available in English translation.
