The narrative that Cristiano is somehow better than Messi because he won an int'l tournament is made all the more absurd by the fact that a) they drew all 3 group stage matches, including 1 wherein Ronaldo missed the game winning penalty [1/2]
b) came in 3rd in their group, which in any other EC doesn't even get you out of the group stage c) he scored 3 goals the whole tournament d) he missed the game winner in the R16 for someone else to score the rebound d) he wasn't on the pitch for the match winner in the final
It's like the textbook example of outcome bias in football
And then when you contrast this with Messi dragging Argentina to the Final in 2014 practically against the will of the rest of the side the agenda becomes clear. Match winner in all 3 group stage matches (brace v Nigeria) and assisted the winner in R16 v Switzerland
