Short Thread on Hindu view of Homosexuality~~

In lieu of a recent poll on homosexuality that I made, I will put forward what Hindu scripture says about it.

Disclaimer: I don't really care what your personal opinion is, I am simply stating what the Hindu shAstra says.

मनुस्मृति ११. ६७ (11.67)

मैथुनं पुंसि जातिभ्रंशकरं स्मृतम् is the relevant part

मैथुनं - copulation
पुंसि - in a man
जातिभ्रंशकरं - causing loss of jAti (varNa)
स्मृतम् - has been remembered (as)

Copulation in/with a man is declared to cause loss of caste.

For a woman, the view is 2-fold. If a strI (older, experienced, non-virgin woman) pollutes a kanyA (maiden –a young virgin) –– the punishment is harsh & amounts to shaving off the head & being carried away by a donkey or having 2 fingers amputated.

(3/5)
If a young maiden does it to another maiden, the fine is 200 paNa, twice (dviguNa) the nuptial fee & ten lashes (whip)

The viṣṇu smṛti says a similar thing – 38.1-8

paśuṣu maithuna-ācaraṇam – performing copulation in an animal

puṃsi ca – or in a man

iti jātibhraṃśakarāṇi –– this, causes loss of jāti

Performing copulation in an animal or a man, this causes loss of caste

As you can see, none of our punishments are very cruel. You lost your caste or were fined or if polluted a young girl, had your head shaved or fingers cut off.

Coming to marriage, there is no marriage for homosexuals as vedic rites for same-sex don’t exist.
